Our sommelier has chosen another batch of fall wines. You'll be sure to find your next favorite in this bunch: here we go!
Descriptions match up with wines from Left-Right! Special shoutout to our sommelier Chris for writing these and pulling this special selection.
1. Yannick Amirault's 'Cote 50' is a cuvee' of three organic vineyards in Bourgeuil, Loire Valley, France. The lauded Bourgeuil appellation is known for its forthright, supple, cheerful expressions of Cabernet Franc due to its sandy soils, and this bottling shows off its character in spades. Richly textured, deep and perfumed with notes of pomegranate, cherry, rose and spice, this guy is a charmer.
2. Meinklang is back with a crown-capped fresh-picked-off-the-vine blend of Zweigelt and St. Laurent grown on Biodynamically farmed sandy loam soils in Neiderosterreich, Austria. Foxy! Fruity! Lively! Juicy! Put a deep chill on it and watch this bottle slip away faster than you can say 'Neiderostrreich'
3. Brandborg, White Pinot Noir from Elkton, OR. White Pinot Noir? Yes. Instead of crushing, the grapes are harvested whole-cluster and soft-pressed before they are sent for an extended cool fermentation in new and old French oak barrels. The juice is then aged 'sur lies' (on its spent yeast) for a creamy, smooth mouthfeel. The soft press brings out all the delicate nuances of pinot noir: herbal tea, jasmine, bright cherry and white pear. Pair this with pan seared scallops!
4. Domaine Saint-Cyr, 'La Galoche', Beaujolais. Yes summer is gone, but that's okay 'cuz its Beaujolais time! I'll be bringing in waves of amazing BoJo because that's what fall is all about. Light, bright, crunchy-fruited, easy to drink, and pairs with anything you're eating right about now. Cool clay and limestone soils bring out a shining acidity and cool pomegranate & violet tones in this picnic-ready crusher!
